PRESIDENT 1996/97
JOHN BEESTON

Born at Hanley (Chester) and educated at Burleydam School he joined his father in tenant farming a smallholding at Lightwood Green. After purchasing this farm, on the death of his father, John moved to Pinnacle Farm, Coole Pilate, near Nantwich, in 1961. Keenly interested in sport he played soccer, badminton and cricket especially with the greatest enthusiasm until ill health restricted his appearances in the club's side. Rotarian cricketers will recall his exuberance in bowling a 'star' player in a District competition against Wolverhampton St. George's ! He loved hosting charity lunches in a marquee and entertaining Group Study Exchange team members at his farm and made many life long overseas friends from these visits. He was a lay preacher on the methodist circuit for many years, and a member of Toc H. . In spite of his determination to fulfil his duties, his presidential year was greatly curtailed by his increasing health problems which brought great pressure on his senior vice - Phil Churms -. A 'one off evening meeting at his farm shortly before his premature death provides poignant memories for those privileged to be present.
Joined Rotary 1/1/1986. Died 12/5/1997.
