Visitors Welcome

We meet in the Dodington Lodge Hotel every 1st & 3rd Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for Dinner, every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 12:45pm for lunch, and if there's a 5th Tuesday, we meet at 7:00am for Breakfast. Visitors are welcome.

FOUNDER PRESIDENT

1938-40 AG Eccleston

Founder President in 1938, ALBERT GEORGE ECCLESTON, born and educated in Whitchurch at the St. John's Methodist School and Whitchurch Grammar school. In the 1890's he was articled to Mr Edward Bygott, solicitor of Wem and Whitchurch - now Henry Lees and passed his final law exams in 1907, becoming a partner in 1912. Over the years he developed extensive business interests being a director of many local companies in North Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire. He was also involved in a multitude of municipal, educational and charitable posts. Sport proved a great attraction being a member of Whitchurch Cricket club for nearly fifty years and under the nom de plume 'Late Cut' contributed articles on the local club's fortunes in the Staffordshire League. He served as secretary and President of Whitchurch Alport Football Club, was president of Hawkstone Park Golf Club 1922 - 1940, Prees Heath and Wem Golf clubs and the Whitchurch Bowling League.
Last but not least he will be remembered as the founder president of the Whitchurch Rotary club in 1938, which position he held until his death on 2 July 1940, aged 63 years. His youngest brother Rupert was a founder member and his nephew, Sam, son of Rupert, was club president in 1969/70 and again in 1999/2000.
