PRESIDENT 1990/91
BILL THICKETT

Born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, he gained a wartime B.,Sc. (Agric.) Degree at Leeds University and was soon working in the farm college area and then 10 years at Merrist Wood, Surrey followed by 10 years as vice-principal at the Nottinghamshire College (Brackenhurst). A significant change of direction brought Bill in 1969 as Farm Manager for BOCM Silcock, a Unilever company, at Barhill, Tushingham - 300 acres and 30 staff to look after plus every specie of livestock. Through his farming contacts with Rotarian and then President Jim Mitchell introduced to the Rotary club and inducted in 1978. His chief interest has always been his love of music as a cellist, playing in string quartets led by Leslie Peake and later with Gill Yearsley and Rotarian Karl Jennings to entertain fellow Rotarians and Inner Wheelers. He describes himself as a 'foot soldier' in the Rotary club's activities.
Joined Rotary 28/3/78.
