Degree at Leeds University and was soon working in the farm college area and then 10 years at Merrist Wood, Surrey followed by 10 years as vice-principal at the Nottinghamshire College (Brackenhurst). Through his farming contacts with Rotarian and then President Jim Mitchell introduced to the Rotary club and inducted in 1978. His chief interest has always been his love of music as a cellist, playing in string quartets led by Leslie Peake and later with Gill Yearsley and Rotarian Karl Jennings to entertain fellow Rotarians and Inner Wheelers. He describes himself as a 'foot soldier' in the Rotary club's activities.
