Visitors Welcome

We meet in the Dodington Lodge Hotel every 1st & 3rd Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for Dinner, every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 12:45pm for lunch, and if there's a 5th Tuesday, we meet at 7:00am for Breakfast. Visitors are welcome.

PRESIDENT, 1979/80
JOHN T. ROBERTS

Attended Mill Mead Prep. School, Shrewsbury then Malvern College. Joined Army in August 1944 and commissioned into the Buffs (Royal East Kent Regt.), serving in Egypt, seconded to West African Frontier Force engaged around Cairo, in legal department at GHQ, prior to demob went to Nigeria. Then served articles with a solicitor in Plymouth, qualifying Solicitor in 1951. Joined the firm of Lucas Butter and Co., Whitchurch, in August 1951. John's maternal grandfather Henry J. Williams had practised as a solicitor in Whitchurch. On his death in 1923, his practice was bought by Frank Butter of Wem, who took into practice Edith Williams (John's aunt) and she had been the first woman solicitor in Shropshire. John became partner in the firm in 1953 and in 2005 held his 55th annual practising certificate. He was President of the Shropshire Law Society in 1978. Secretary and lay chairman of Whitchurch Parochial Church Council, member, chairman and president of Whitchurch AODS, chairman British Legion, Age Concern. Whitchurch August Bank Holiday Show and fete on the committees of Friends Whitchurch Community Hospital, Bradbury Day Centre, Whitchurch Heritage. Very interested in sport, he played cricket locally and is a keen golfer. Marked his 75th birthday with charity fund raising climb of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and on his 76th cycled the 76 miles from Llandudno to Whitchurch.
Secretary of the Whitchurch Club for a record breaking 23 years (1982-2005) and created a Paul Harris Fellow in 1993. Joined Rotary 13/5/1974.
