PRESIDENT 1963/64
GEOFFREY G.J. OWEN

Involved in the family shoe retail business situated in High Street, Whitchurch, Geoffrey had a most distinguished involvement in the Second World War. He was a sergeant in 1st Airborne Division RAMC, and involved in the North African campaign, the invasion of Sicily and at Arnhem; on one occasion isolated behind the German lines he worked in a Dutch hospital. On his return he involved himself in many local activities, namely Whitchurch UDC of which he was chairman, a JP for 25 years, Scout master and youth organiser, Inland Revenue commissioner. A fascinating speaker and source of knowledge about Whitchurch present and particularly past he was a natural choice as President of the local Archaelogical Society and to be involved with the local library service.
Joined Rotary 5/11/46. Died 1982, aged 77 years. Wife President Inner Wheel 1954/55 and 1965/66.
