PRESIDENT 1962/63
BASIL L. GIBBS

Came to Prees when the Salopian Cattle Bowl Co., formed by Messrs. Batkin and Morris in 1926, was sold to the Midlands Rubery Owen Group in 1954. Originally a union organiser in Coventry, where he was awarded the OBE for his work during the blitz, Basil was the company's first Personnel Manager in 1954, and rapidly involved himself in every aspect of local activity. He was a natural to throw his enthusiasm into Rotary. He was the first compere of the May Concert started in 1974 and folklore has it that he was the 'Santa' on the earliest ill fated trip when he and the unsecured Santa's chair were deposited in the road side ditch en-route to Ash! He presided over an unforgettable get-together of Shropshire clubs to celebrate the club's twenty-fifth anniversary.
Joined Rotary 21/2/1956. Honorary member 1976. Died 2/82. Wife Inner Wheel President 1963/64; treasurer 1967/69.
