Visitors Welcome

We meet in the Dodington Lodge Hotel every 1st & 3rd Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for Dinner, every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 12:45pm for lunch, and if there's a 5th Tuesday, we meet at 7:00am for Breakfast. Visitors are welcome.

PRESIDENT 1965/66
ALAN W. PALIN


Born and educated in Whitchurch, Alan joined his father 'Billy' Palin (President 1950/51) in the family grocery business in 1939, and was called up to the RAF in 1942 and sent to Canada to train as a pilot, gaining his wings in 1945 remaining in Canada as an instructor to the end of his service. After the premature death of his father in 1952 he succeeded him in the grocery business until the pressure of the supermarkets forced its closure when he joined Westry Roberts, Cheese Factors until his death in 1988.
He had inherited his family's talent and love of music and was an accomplished cellist, winning prizes from the age of nine at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, and playing in local orchestras until taking over as musical director of the Whitchurch AODS after the death of his father. Keenly interested in sport especially Rugby and in bowls as a member of the Bridgewater club.
He joined Rotary 27/1/53. Died 17.5.88, aged 65 years. His wife President of Inner Wheel 1961/62; secretary 1959/61, 1964/67.
Alan and Billy Palin are the only father and son to occupy the Presidential office.
