Val Roberts beautiful home, Three Bridges is to be found on the off side of the canal at the foot of the locks, from here Val sells a large range of plants that she rears herself and a large selection of books at discount prices. Vals garden is a frequent winner in the local garden competitions and helps to set off the area around the bottom lock which most visitors agree is the most beautiful part of the village.
Val is also an active member of the preservation trust that is attempting to restore the former Shropshire Union Canal CO's flyboat 'Symbol'. Symbol is to be found in the dry-dock at Trevor on the far side of the Pontcysllte aqueduct.
In order to raise funds for the restoration the trust has available prints of a painting by the famous canal artist 'Dusty Miller' depicting 'Symbol' crossing the famous Chirck aqueduct whilst a Great Western Railway Steam Engine crosses the adjacent Chirck viaduct.
Prints start at £7.50 for a 7"X10" (approx.) through to £20 for an A3 (16½" X 11½"), the first 50 prints are available signed and numbered by the artist for £30. All profits going to the Symbol fund
