The village is famous for a number of things, if you have ever driven through it then it is famous for two bad bends by the pub! But it must be most famous for the fact that the Ellesmere canal, known to most of us as the Llangollen canal, passes right through the village, climbing as it goes first through three conventional locks set in the most beautiful of surroundings and then as it plunges under the main A41 road it opens immediately into the famous three chamber staircase lock.

The locks attract visitors by canal and by car and foot, and the services within the village have grown up to supply their needs, shops, pubs, garage, and caravan site. There can be few more tranquil or interesting places to park a caravan than by the Llangollen canal at Grindley Brook.

For the boater there are all the usual BWB services, water, sewage disposal, moorings and a turning point as well as private moorings and boat repairs available near the top lock.
