During the winter of 2004 the locks have been
closed for major work on the 'head', the approach, of the top lock.
this has required the building of a coffer dam
across the winding hole and construction of an entirely new wall
across one end of the winding hole and each side of the lock entrance.
The work included a massive new concrete foundation, hence the necessity
to build the coffer dam.
The whole project has been finished to a very
high standard, befitting such a popular visitor area, with blue
engineering bricks and new sandstone capping's.
With the dredging of this whole section
this winter we in the village are very pleased with the results.
